Overview: Étang-Canigou is the 18-hole coastal routing at Golf de Saint-Cyprien, set between the Mediterranean shore, the Étang de Canet and views toward Mount Canigou. The opening holes have a links-like relationship with the water and coast, while the inland return brings more landform and water hazards into the strategy. Long par fours, raised greens and the possibility of Tramontane wind make distance control and placement central to the round.
History: Saint-Cyprien opened in 1976 as a 27-hole golf resort. The resort’s official history credits the Scottish architects Tomlinson and Wright with the design of the facility, correcting the single-name Ben Wright attribution in the target record. Étang-Canigou is one of the two contrasting routings: the coastal 18-hole course used for major qualifying events, alongside the more technical nine-hole Forêt course through the pine setting.
Did You Know? The official Étang-Canigou page lists the routing at par 73 and 6,388 metres, approximately 6,988 yards. The sixth hole looks toward the Étang de Canet and Mount Canigou, while the 17th is a 550-metre par five where water influences the preferred line.
