Overview: Sacconnesset Golf Club is a private Rees Jones course in Falmouth, where Cape Cod’s wooded corridors meet open coastal ground. The 7,041-yard, par-72 layout uses sandy glacial terrain, natural contours, kettle holes, pines, oaks and granite boulders to create a sequence of changing strategic questions. Multiple teeing grounds alter the scale of the course, while the fairways and greens are fitted into the land rather than laid across a uniform resort template. Red-tailed hawks and native vegetation are part of the setting.
History: Rees Jones designed Sacconnesset as a new stand-alone private club on raw Cape Cod ground, with Steve Weisser credited as co-designer in the Rees Jones project record. The course opened for play on June 3, 2007, and the Massachusetts Golf Association later described it as the last new course built on raw land on Cape Cod. The club has since hosted significant state events, including the Massachusetts Mid-Amateur in 2016 and the Massachusetts Open in 2017 and 2025. Its development brief was to create a walkable, pre-Depression-style classic while responding to the high and varied topography of the site.
Did You Know? Sacconnesset’s design uses Cape Cod’s sandy glacial landscape as a central architectural feature. Kettle holes, ridges and exposed granite do more than frame the holes: they help determine where fairways rise, where greens sit and how the course moves between wooded corridors and more open coastal ground.
