Overview: Sabah Golf & Country Club is an 18-hole par-72 parkland course in Kota Kinabalu. The club's current course-layout page credits Robert Muir Graves, lists 6,335 metres from the back tees, approximately 6,927 yards, and describes hilly ground, undulating fairways, lakes, hidden sand bunkers and changing wind. Nelson & Haworth later reviewed and remodeled the course, so the present experience combines a long-established Kota Kinabalu routing with a modernized strategic framework.
History: The course opened for play in 1976 and was remodeled in 2004 by Nelson & Haworth Golf Course Architects, according to the club's current layout page. Nelson & Haworth's project account says the existing course was retained for the most part, with changes to routing, drainage, steep landing areas and tree management. The course also hosted the Sabah Masters for many years, giving its tight, hilly test a place in the state's professional golf history.
Did You Know? The 2004 work moved the ninth green from an awkward hillside position to a more dramatic lakeside location, one of the clearest documented changes to the routing. That detail helps explain the course's character: lakes and slopes are not separate scenery themes, but part of how the holes were shaped and refined. With a listed back-tee course rating of 73.3, the layout is a serious test even before wind and uneven lies are added.
