Overview: Saadiyat Beach Golf Club in Abu Dhabi holds the distinction of being the first beachfront golf course in the Arabian Gulf. Designed by the "Black Knight" Gary Player and opened in 2010, the course is a spectacular and massive links-style challenge that weaves around several five-star resorts and the crystal-clear waters of the Gulf. With a championship yardage exceeding 7,800 yards, it is one of the most physically imposing courses in Asia, featuring natural sand dunes, three large saltwater lakes, and over 60 strategic bunkers that guard its vast fairways.
History: The development of Saadiyat Island was a cornerstone of Abu Dhabi’s cultural and tourism expansion, and the golf course was designed to be its sporting centerpiece. Gary Player’s design team spent significant effort to ensure the layout felt like a natural extension of the island's coastline, moving massive amounts of sand to create the rugged, undulating dunes that define the course. Since its inception, it has hosted the Ladies European Tour’s Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open and has established itself as one of the most scenic and environmentally conscious clubs in the Middle East.
Did You Know? The course is a masterpiece of sustainable design and serves as a nature reserve for the island's wildlife, including gazelles and several species of migratory birds. The views from the beachfront holes are often interrupted by the sight of dolphins in the Arabian Gulf, and the clubhouse's Hawksbill restaurant is named after the endangered sea turtles that nest on the adjacent beach, making Saadiyat one of the most ecologically diverse golf destinations in the world.
