Overview: The Senator at Capitol Hill is a Robert Trent Jones Sr. public course with a Scottish-links influence, built across rolling ground north of Montgomery. Mounds, pot-hole bunkers and native vegetation shape the lines of play, often hiding the next hole and making distance control more important than a simple view of the target. The current black-tee scorecard lists 7,643 yards at par 72. More than 140 pot-hole bunkers and mounds rising 20 to 40 feet give the layout a distinctive texture, while the open ground allows wind and ground movement to affect the best approach.
History: The Senator is one of the three 18-hole courses at Capitol Hill, a 54-hole Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail site that opened in 1999. It was recognised by Golf Magazine among the nation’s top ten new courses soon after opening and later became a tournament venue for the LPGA’s Epson Tour and the former Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic. New TifEagle Ultradwarf greens were installed in 2020. Those updates are part of the course’s continuing history, but the identity remains the original Jones combination of mounding, deep bunkering and links-style exposure.
Did You Know? The Senator has more than 140 pot-hole bunkers and mounds that rise 20 to 40 feet. The earthforms are arranged to hide parts of the routing, so the next hole can disappear even when the course is not heavily wooded.
