Overview: The Championship Course at Royal Zoute Golf Club, located in the exclusive seaside resort of Knokke-Heist on the Belgian coast, is a historic and highly acclaimed links and woodland hybrid designed by English master Harry Colt. Winding through rolling sand dunes and ancient, windswept pine trees, the course features firm, fast fairways and deep, punishing bunkers. It offers a classic and rigorous strategic test, where the natural undulations of the terrain and the strong coastal winds from the North Sea demand thoughtful club selection and precise shot-making.
History: Originally founded in 1899 and designed by Harry Colt in 1909, Royal Zoute has a long and storied history, having hosted the Belgian Open on several occasions. The course was heavily damaged during World War II, but was meticulously restored to Colt's original plans in the late 1940s. The club has since maintained a steadfast dedication to preserving Colt's strategic architecture, remaining a deeply private and traditional haven for European golf.
Did You Know? The dunes surrounding the course still conceal hidden concrete bunkers from World War II, which were built by the occupying forces as part of the Atlantic Wall coastal fortifications. These historic relics, while carefully managed, serve as a poignant reminder of the course's wartime past, adding a fascinating layer of historical depth to the property.
