Overview: Royal Wellington’s Heretaunga Course is an 18-hole parkland layout in Upper Hutt, set between the terrace and the Te Awakairangi Hutt River. The current championship course was redesigned by Greg Turner and Scott Macpherson and opened in 2013, using river flats, gentle undulations, streams and mature parkland to shape the round.
History: Royal Wellington’s club history at Heretaunga dates to 1908, followed by a new course in 1974 and later upgrades by Sir Bob Charles and John Darby. The 2013 rebuilding reused established corridors while adding land near the river, creating the present championship identity.
Did You Know? The club operates a 27-hole golf property: the Heretaunga championship course is accompanied by the separate 9-hole Terrace Course.
