Overview: Located in Lasne, Belgium, the Lion Course at Royal Waterloo Golf Club is an 18-hole parkland course designed by Baron Paul Rolin. Winding through a mature forest of oak, beech, and birch trees, the layout features rolling fairways, strategic sand hazards, and contoured green complexes. The course demands strategic tee shots to navigate the tree-lined corridors and precise approach angles to reach the well-guarded greens.
History: Opened in 1980, Royal Waterloo was established to create a premier private sporting facility in Brabant. The Lion Course was later refined by the acclaimed architect Martin Hawtree, who updated the classic forest course to modern tournament standards while preserving its classic parkland character.
Did You Know? The course is situated on historic land immediately adjacent to the battlefield where the Duke of Wellington defeated Napoleon Bonaparte in 1815. The iconic Lion's Mound monument can be seen from several holes on the course, providing a historic backdrop.
