Overview: The Centenary Course is Royal Sydney Golf Club’s 18-hole course for older players, beginners and golfers who want a shorter but thoughtful round within the historic Rose Bay club. The current yellow-tee length is 3,683 metres and the men’s card plays to par 64. Tight fairways, small contoured greens and water on six of the nine holes give the course more strategy than its compact yardage suggests. It is a private club facility, but its routing offers a different experience from Royal Sydney’s championship course.
History: The Centenary Course was completely rebuilt in 1997 by Thomson Wolveridge Perrett. Its name reflects the club’s centenary era, while the wider Royal Sydney story reaches back to the club’s formation in 1893 and its move through several early Sydney sites before settling at Rose Bay. The present short course was designed as a complete golf experience rather than as a simple practice loop.
Did You Know? Royal Sydney’s official page describes water on six of the nine holes, even though the Centenary is presented as an 18-hole course. The reason is that the front and back nines reuse the same nine-hole routing, making it possible to offer a full round with changing tee shots and a different set of approach angles.
