Overview: Royal Óbidos is an 18-hole coastal course on Portugal's Silver Coast, set between rolling ground and the Óbidos Lagoon. Severiano Ballesteros designed the routing to follow the natural undulations and to connect the golf with the surrounding landscape rather than flattening the site into a conventional resort layout. The official resort describes a course of approximately 6,400 metres, with water, lakes and changing elevation shaping the strategy. Broad fairways invite a confident drive, but the approach angles become more demanding when streams or lakes influence the preferred side of the hole. The lagoon views give the round an open feeling, while the interior holes use more landform and vegetation to create a quieter rhythm. It is a thoughtful combination of links-style movement, parkland planting and Atlantic scenery.
History: Royal Óbidos was developed as part of the Silver Coast resort and opened its 18-hole course in 2012. Ballesteros was responsible for the golf design, creating a layout that uses the existing topography and the visual relationship with the Óbidos Lagoon as central ideas. The resort's current course material continues to emphasize that natural integration, while the annual price list and maintenance notices show an actively managed modern course. The layout has also become part of the wider golf destination around Óbidos, where coastal landscape and resort development sit alongside older towns and lagoon country.
Did You Know? The official resort describes Royal Óbidos as a course of about 6,400 metres and notes that its design takes advantage of the ground's natural undulation. That is an important clue to the character of the round: the course's visual scale comes from the landscape, while the strategic work is often done by changes in level and the way water is threaded through the holes.
