Overview: Royal Golf Club in Lake Elmo is a public 18-hole course created from the former Tartan Park property. The layout is divided into the Queen nine, shaped with Annika Sorenstam's design philosophy, and the King nine, developed with Arnold Palmer's design influence. Rolling ground, wetlands and established vegetation give the course a sense of history even though the current routing is new. The architectural concept balances two recognizable playing styles within one coherent property, using the old landscape as the bridge between them.
History: Developer Hollis Cavner purchased the former 3M Tartan Park property in 2016 and brought together Arnold Palmer, Annika Sorenstam and the Arnold Palmer Design Company for a complete remodel. Sorenstam's first U.S. design work shaped the Queen nine, while Palmer's influence defined the King nine. Royal Golf Club opened for the 2018 golf season, replacing the older 27-hole Tartan Park configuration with a new 18-hole presentation. The project preserved the site's rolling land and wetlands while giving the property a new competitive identity.
Did You Know? The front nine is called the Queen and the back nine the King, a direct reference to the two major champions whose design philosophies shaped the course. Royal's name and routing make that collaboration part of the scorecard itself.
