Overview: Royal Kunia Country Club follows rolling ground on Oahu’s central leeward plain, with views toward Pearl Harbor and the Waianae range. The 7,007-yard par-72 routing uses six water features, numerous bunkers and changing fairway angles to create a course that is more strategic than the broad sugar-country setting first suggests.
History: Nelson Haworth’s design was completed in 1993, with the course opening to its broader market in 2003 after development of the property. The site was formerly fallow sugar-cane land, and the course’s water features include retention work that helped make the golf development possible.
Did You Know? The course’s ponds serve more than one purpose. They are visible hazards in the routing and also part of the storm-water and retention design for land that once belonged to the sugar industry.
