Overview: Yarralumla is the 18-hole combination of holes 10–27 at Royal Canberra Golf Club. The current official card lists par 72 and about 6,339 metres from the blue tees, or roughly 6,932 yards. It is a mature woodland routing through Westbourne Woods, with tree-lined corridors, open stretches and the quiet drama of Canberra’s planted landscape. The course rewards a player who can vary trajectory and position, because the visual setting can make a hole look more generous than the approach angle really is.
History: Royal Canberra moved to Westbourne Woods in 1962 when the club’s Acton course was threatened by the creation of Lake Burley Griffin. Commander John Harris designed the course associated with that move, and OCM later worked on the modern presentation. Yarralumla is part of Royal Canberra’s present three-nine system, alongside the Westbourne and Brindabella combinations, and shares the property with the historic arboretum.
Did You Know? Royal Canberra is the custodian of Westbourne Woods Arboretum. The relationship is practical as well as scenic: the original idea was that a golf course and a properly irrigated arboretum could support one another, giving the club an unusually strong connection between golf and landscape stewardship.
