Overview: Brindabella is one of the current 18-hole combinations at Royal Canberra Golf Club, using holes 19–27 and then holes 1–9 of the club’s 27-hole property at Yarralumla. The official blue-tee card lists par 72 and a combined length of about 6,277 metres. The routing moves through the Westbourne Woods landscape, where mature trees, open lines and elevation changes produce a distinctly inland Australian round. It is a private club course with a strong championship history and a setting that feels more like an arboretum than a resort.
History: The Brindabella course was created as part of the later 27-hole development and is credited to Thomson, Wolveridge and Perrett in 1997. Royal Canberra had moved from its Acton site to Westbourne Woods in 1962 after Canberra’s lake project threatened the former course. The present property therefore combines a planned modern routing with the club’s older Canberra history and the botanical collection it helps protect.
Did You Know? Brindabella’s numbering is deliberately unusual: it starts with holes 19–27 and then returns to holes 1–9. The name reflects the Canberra region’s mountain backdrop, while the course itself remains embedded in the Westbourne Woods arboretum.
