Overview: The King's Course at Royal Bled, located in the breathtaking Alpine foothills of northwestern Slovenia near Lake Bled, is a spectacular mountain and parkland course designed by King Alexander I and redesigned by Howard Swan. Framed by the towering Julian Alps, the course features dramatic elevation changes, crystal-clear mountain streams, and perfectly manicured fairways lined with mature pines. Following a massive, multi-million dollar renovation, the layout has been restored to a standard of world-class excellence, offering a visually stunning and strategically challenging golfing experience.
History: Originally opened in 1937, Royal Bled holds a distinguished historical lineage, commissioned by the Yugoslav Royal Family as a summer retreat. It was abandoned during World War II and lay dormant for decades before being restored in the 1970s. In 2017, the course underwent a massive, comprehensive redesign by Howard Swan, who rebuilt all 18 greens, updated the bunkers, and constructed spectacular new lakes, elevating it to a premier European destination.
Did You Know? The course was historically visited by numerous European royals, including the Duke of Windsor, who played the course in the late 1930s. The signature par-3 14th hole requires a precise tee shot over a deep, pine-filled ravine to a green perched on a high ridge, presenting a dramatic shot that is highly vulnerable to mountain breezes.
