Overview: Royal Beroun Golf Club is a modern 18-hole course on the edge of Beroun, south-west of Prague. Les Furber placed the layout across a former military site containing both flatter ground and rolling terrain, creating a balanced parkland course with four lakes and around 70 bunkers. The fairways generally reveal their landing areas, but the design constantly asks whether to take a direct, riskier line or choose a longer route with more margin.
History: Architectural supervision began in 2006, and the first nine holes were brought into use in autumn 2008. The full course opened in May 2009, establishing Beroun as a private-club project with a substantial hotel, wellness and clubhouse complex. Furber’s work at Beroun followed his earlier Czech design at Karlštejn, and the two courses remain closely associated in the country’s modern golf story.
Did You Know? Beroun contains a characteristic Furber feature in the form of double greens serving the seventh and tenth holes. The course also occupies land that once formed part of a military installation, so its broad fairways, lakes and residential surroundings represent a complete transformation of a previously restricted site.
