Overview: Rope Rider is Suncadia's 18-hole Jacobsen Hardy course near Cle Elum, Washington. The par-72 layout reaches 7,300 yards and is built on the site of three historic Roslyn coal mines. Pine forest, rolling Central Washington ground and elevation changes frame a course that uses industrial remnants as part of its design language. Mine foundations, portals and a 120-ft hill of coal tailings remain visible around the routing, giving Rope Rider a stronger sense of place than a typical resort course. Youth tees on every hole broaden the playing options without reducing the challenge from the back markers.
History: Rope Rider opened in 2011 as Suncadia's third golf course, following the Prospector Course and the private Tumble Creek course. Jacobsen Hardy Golf Course Design shaped the layout around the former mining landscape rather than erasing its history. The name refers to coal miners who balanced on the cars used to move coal along steep mine shafts. The course's opening added a public-facing 18-hole experience to Suncadia's wider resort development and completed a distinct three-course golf story in the Cle Elum area.
Did You Know? The 120-ft coal-tailings hill known as Tipple Hill is part of the visual identity of the course. It is not a decorative mound imported for golf: it is a surviving industrial feature from the Roslyn mining landscape, preserved and placed directly into the routing.
