Overview: Petaluma’s Rooster Run Golf Club offers public 18-hole golf, designed by Fred Bliss and opened in 1998. The par-72 layout reaches about 7,001 yards across former pasture, where three creeks, six lakes, mature trees and an island green create a water-and-landscape course rather than a simple open-field test.
History: Construction transformed the Petaluma property by moving roughly 370,000 cubic yards of earth. Fred Bliss’s design retained three creeks and two ancient trees while adding lakes, bunkers and shaped playing corridors. The course opened in 1998 and remains a public Sonoma County routing.
Did You Know? Rooster Run contains an island green and 39 bunkers, but the older landscape matters just as much as those visible features. The ancient trees and creek lines survived the transformation and provide the course with a sense of place beyond its manufactured hazards.
