Overview: Rolling Road Golf Club in Catonsville, Maryland, is a parkland layout designed by Willie Park Jr. The course is defined by its rolling topography, mature hardwood trees, and small, highly contoured green complexes. The layout requires strategic placement and creative short-game play to negotiate the challenging putting surfaces and sharp elevation shifts, offering a classic test of golf that remains engaging.
History: Founded in 1919, the course represents one of the few Willie Park Jr. designs in the Mid-Atlantic region. Park utilized the natural hillsides to create a routing that has remained largely intact for over a century. The club has worked to restore the original bunker shapes and green sizes.
Did You Know? The club's name is derived from the historic Rolling Road, which was used by tobacco farmers in the eighteenth century to roll large casks of tobacco down to the port of Elkridge. The course covers land that was once part of these historic agricultural transportation routes.
