Overview: Rolling Hills Country Club is a private links-style course located in Rolling Hills Estates, California. Designed by David McLay Kidd, the course features wide fairways, massive sandy waste areas, and dramatic elevation changes that offer views of the Los Angeles skyline. The layout encourages players to utilize ground-game tactics, allowing balls to bounce and roll toward the large, undulating putting surfaces.
History: The club was originally established in 1965 with a traditional parkland course. In 2018, the club completed a total transformation, merging the original golf course and a neighboring sand quarry. Kidd designed an entirely new course on the site, moving millions of yards of dirt to create the open, links-style routing seen today.
Did You Know? The course is almost completely devoid of trees, a design choice Kidd made to replicate the open, wind-swept feel of traditional Scottish links. This open design allows players to view the skyline and the San Pedro Bay from multiple high points on the course. The lack of trees also means the wind plays a major factor in club selection on every single hole.
