Overview: Robertson Golf Club is the 18-hole course at Silwerstrand Golf and River Estate in the Breede River Valley. The par-72 layout measures 6,135 metres from the yellow tees and sits among vineyards, orchards, the river, and views towards the Langeberg mountains. Danie Obermeyer’s design uses strategic bunkering and water to create a course that is visually open but not automatically forgiving. The island green at the seventh and the closing par five provide two especially clear expressions of that character.
History: Golf had been played in the Robertson area for more than a century before the local nine-hole course was expanded through the Silwerstrand project. Planning began after Mark Brumer’s 1998 visit, approval followed in 2004, and the new 18-hole course opened in May 2008. Obermeyer designed the current course on the same land as the older nine, linking local golf history with the modern river estate.
Did You Know? An old aqueduct crosses the ground at the final hole. It is a small piece of infrastructure, but it gives the closing par five a physical connection to the valley’s agricultural and water history. The course’s vineyards, orchards, river, and mountains are not just scenery, they are the context in which the Silwerstrand layout makes sense.
