Overview: Richter Park Golf Course is a public 18-hole Edward Ryder design in Danbury, Connecticut. The current course site lists par 71 and 6,547 yards, while the layout occupies more than 180 acres between West Lake Reservoir and Boggs Pond. Water can influence 14 holes, and 49 bunkers surround the greens, so the course's challenge comes from managing hazards and angles rather than simply surviving long carries. Mature trees, rolling fairways and mixed Bent/Poa greens give the municipal course a polished, tournament-ready character. It is a demanding but readable layout: the player who chooses conservative lines and leaves the correct approach angles can score, while careless aggression brings the surrounding water and bunkers into play.
History: Stanley and Irene Richter donated 230 acres to Danbury in 1968 for recreational use. After three years of construction, the golf course opened in 1972 as the centerpiece of what became Stanley L. Richter Memorial Park. Edward Ryder designed the course, and the city has continued to operate it as part of a wider park complex that includes the historic Richter House and arts programming. Richter Park has developed a strong competitive record, hosting American Junior Golf Association events as well as the Met Public Links Championship and Connecticut Public Links Championship. Its history is therefore tied to both public recreation and serious tournament golf.
Did You Know? Richter Park's 14 water holes are not all the same type of test: reservoirs, ponds and wetland edges influence different lines throughout the round. The course also sits beside the Richter House, connecting a championship-style municipal layout with Danbury’s arts and cultural history.
