Overview: The Landing is the original golf course at Lake Oconee and one of two Bob Cupp designs at Reynolds Lake Oconee. Its 18-hole, par-72 routing moves through naturally wooded areas and rolling hills, using changes in elevation to give the course variety without making every hole feel like a climb. The official course page lists 6,991 yards. The setting is private and residential, but the design is rooted in the landscape rather than built around spectacle.
History: The course opened in 1986 under the name Port Armor Golf Club, becoming the first golf course on Lake Oconee. Reynolds acquired it in 2005 and renovated it in 2013. Cupp returned to the project with Billy Fuller, describing the work as a careful rejuvenation of the original layout. The renovation refreshed turf and tees, repositioned bunkers, converted some hazards to grass hollows, and removed a blind pond from the 15th hole while keeping the character of the routing intact.
Did You Know? The Landing is not simply an early Reynolds course with a new name: it is the starting point of the Lake Oconee golf story. Its original Port Armor identity is still part of the course’s design history, and the 2013 work was unusual in that the architect who created the layout helped bring it back in line with its original strategic ideas. The result is a course with a later renovation, but an unmistakably older design personality.
