Overview: Renaissance Golf Club is a private Brian Silva design in Haverhill, routed across approximately 210 acres beside the Merrimack River. The 7,031-yard, par 72 course uses rolling ground, water features, native landscape and broad strategic choices to recreate the spirit of older golf architecture in a contemporary setting. Silva’s design includes recognizable classic concepts without becoming a literal museum of template holes. The result is a course where angles, risk and recovery options matter as much as the scorecard distance.
History: The project was developed on land that included former gravel pits and a harness-racing training oval. The back nine was ready for play in July 2005, followed by the front nine in June 2006, and the completed 18-hole course officially opened in July 2006. Brian Silva created the design with collaboration from Brian Johnson, giving the project a place in both architects’ professional histories. Drainage and specialty soil systems were also major parts of the construction, helping the course manage its proximity to the Merrimack River.
Did You Know? Renaissance was Silva’s first signature 18-hole design. The course’s name reflects its stated ambition: to revive time-honored traditions and the strategic ideas of golf’s earlier architectural eras. That means the design can reference classic forms while still asking modern players to make individual decisions about line, trajectory and acceptable risk.
