Overview: Red Run Golf Club is a private Willie Park Jr. course in Royal Oak, Michigan, with a modern restoration led by Bruce Hepner. The current scorecard record lists par 72 and 6,785 yards from the championship tees. Its parkland character comes from mature trees, rolling fairways and traditional green sites, but the course has enough length and shaped ground to remain a serious test. The routing is compact and purposeful, with a balanced sequence of par fives and par threes and a steady emphasis on placing the ball for the next shot. In a heavily developed Detroit suburb, Red Run preserves the atmosphere of an older golf landscape.
History: Red Run was founded in 1914 on farmland north of Detroit. Willie Park Jr. designed the course, and Bruce Hepner later led extensive restoration and renovation work on tees and bunkers with the stated goal of strengthening the original architectural character. The club has a deep competition history, hosting the Motor City Open in 1950 and 1951, the Western Open in 1958, multiple GAM Championships and two Michigan Amateur Championships. Red Run's identity is therefore defined by continuity: a historic Park course, a long tournament record and modern work intended to preserve rather than replace its central design ideas.
Did You Know? Red Run hosted the Western Open in 1958, when the club welcomed some of the leading professionals of the era. It has also been the home course of Michigan Golf Hall of Fame player Chuck Kocsis, connecting the layout to the state's competitive golf history.
