Overview: Red Hawk Golf Club in Las Cruces is an 18-hole public course with a links-style character shaped by the open Chihuahuan Desert setting. Ken Dye’s routing gives the course room to show its surroundings, with broad playing areas, exposed ground and the Organ Mountains forming a strong visual frame. Wind and changing lies are part of the challenge, so the course rewards a controlled ball flight and thoughtful positioning more than a single aggressive strategy. The result is a modern southern New Mexico layout that feels tied to Las Cruces rather than transplanted from another golf market.
History: Red Hawk opened in October 2011 as a public golf facility for the Las Cruces area. Dye’s design was built around the region’s dry climate, open terrain and mountain setting, creating a course that could offer a substantial championship test while retaining the visual openness associated with links-style golf. Its 7,523-yard back layout gives the property plenty of competitive scale, but the surrounding desert remains the defining feature.
Did You Know? The Organ Mountains are not simply a distant backdrop at Red Hawk. They rise prominently east of Las Cruces and give the course a changing visual reference from many parts of the property. That relationship between the open golf ground and the sharp mountain profile is one of the clearest ways to distinguish Red Hawk from a conventional tree-lined parkland course.
