Overview: Established in 1932 in the high-altitude region of Tacoronte, the Real Club de Golf de Tenerife—affectionately known as "El Peñón"—is the second-oldest golf club in the Canary Islands and a cherished landmark of Spanish golfing history. Designed by Andrés Albertos Díaz and expanded to its current 18-hole configuration in 1959, the par-71 course is a masterclass in classic parkland routing, situated between 600 and 725 meters above sea level. The layout is defined by its dramatic undulations and significant elevation changes, winding through a lush, mature landscape of Canarian pines, laurels, and eucalyptus. Celebrated for its cooler, fresher climate and its seamless integration into the rugged northern terrain, the course offers a rhythmic and technical test where accurate shot-making is rewarded over raw power.
Did You Know? The club is world-famous for its spectacular views of Mount Teide, which serves as a majestic and ever-present backdrop throughout the round. Holding the prestigious "Real" (Royal) distinction since 1989, the clubhouse maintains a distinguished "British" atmosphere, featuring traditional wood-paneled interiors and a terrace that has hosted generations of the island’s sporting elite. Beyond its design, El Peñón is a vital ecological sanctuary, utilizing the natural dry stream beds that cross the fairways as organic hazards and maintaining a vibrant ecosystem of indigenous flora. This combination of royal heritage, alpine-like scenery, and technical depth makes it a unique and enduring jewel in the crown of Atlantic golf.
