Overview: On the western Witwatersrand, Randfontein Golf and Country Club presents an 18-hole parkland test on the western edge of the Witwatersrand. The routing uses broad fairways, mature trees, large undulating greens, doglegs, bunkers and water, with the official course overview describing different shot-shaping demands across the round. The club provides a practice range, putting and chipping areas, carts, caddies, halfway-house service and a clubhouse, making it a complete visitor venue in the West Rand.
History: The club was founded in 1926 and originally belonged to the Randfontein Estates Gold Mining Company. The course is associated with Bob Grimsdell and was reconstructed by Golf Data in 1993. The current club continues to publish an 18-hole course, although an older local report mentioned the possibility of a future nine-hole conversion; that uncertainty is recorded for monitoring, not treated as a completed change.
Did You Know? The seventh hole is the course’s clearest signature feature: Robbie Marshall of Golf Data designed it as a tribute to Augusta’s famous 16th, with the green played over water. The club’s overview also records Gary Player making a hole-in-one at the 15th, adding a notable professional connection to the course’s local mining-belt history.
