Overview: Rancho Solano Golf Course is an 18-hole public course in the Fairfield hills, designed by Gary Roger Baird and opened in March 1990. The USGA rating record lists a par-72 blue layout at 6,632 yards. The city describes large tiered greens, well-manicured fairways and a series of lakes that bring water into play on both nines. Its hillside setting and open public access make it a natural Bay Area stop for golfers traveling between San Francisco, Sacramento and the North Bay.
History: Rancho Solano was created as Fairfield’s first municipal course in the modern two-course system, with the city recording an Opening Day in March 1990. The course was designed by Gary Roger Baird and built into the rolling Fairfield terrain rather than flattened into a conventional residential grid. The city continues to operate it alongside Paradise Valley, giving the local golf market two distinct public layouts.
Did You Know? Water shapes several of Rancho Solano’s most memorable decisions. The city identifies holes 2, 3, 4 and 5 on the front nine, plus holes 11, 12 and 14 on the back, as places where water affects play. Hole 12 is a par three played over a lake from every tee, while the large, tiered greens add another layer of distance control after the hazard has been negotiated.
