Overview: Rae Golf is an 18-hole mixed course in Suuresta, about 19 kilometres from Tallinn. Lassi Pekka Tilander’s layout is deliberately divided into two contrasting nines: the first is long and wide with links-style character, while the back nine is shorter, narrower and more park-like. The course sits in varied Estonian terrain with water, forest edges and open landing areas, giving each half a distinct visual and strategic language. The directory records par 72 and approximately 6,210 yards. Rae’s appeal comes from that change of pace, moving from broad, wind-exposed golf to tighter target golf before the final green.
History: The Rae golf facility was built in 2004 and later underwent a substantial renovation in 2019. The Estonian sports register records both dates, while Tilander Golf Design documented the renovation work on the 18-hole course. The project included a new home hole, a remodelled ninth green, two new practice greens, a short-game area and a new driving range. Those changes updated the facility without erasing the basic two-nine concept that remains visible on the official course map. Its proximity to Tallinn has helped Rae develop as both a full course and a wider golf centre with practice and academy facilities.
Did You Know? Rae’s renovation created a new 18th hole and remodelled the ninth green, so the two nines now have especially clear bookends. That supports the course’s central contrast: the opening nine is described officially as long and wide, while the closing nine is shorter and narrower. The result is a round that changes its demands before the player reaches the clubhouse.
