Overview: Radyr Golf Club is an elevated parkland course on the western side of Cardiff, with gently rolling fairways and views across the city and the Bristol Channel. The 18-hole layout uses the hillside rather than imposing a single visual style, combining tree-lined corridors, sloping lies and shaped green approaches. Its setting near Radyr gives the course a clear relationship with the city, while the ground still provides a varied and strategic round.
History: Radyr Golf Club was founded in September 1902, with W.B. Fernie engaged to lay out the original course. Eighteen holes were ready to play by February 1903. The club held the first Welsh Professional Championship in July 1904, and H.S. Colt was appointed in 1912 to transform the course into the parkland challenge that remains at its centre today.
Did You Know? The first Welsh Professional Championship at Radyr in 1904 followed a visit from Harry Vardon, James Braid and J.H. Taylor. Their appearance tied the young Cardiff club directly to the leading professional golf of its period.
