Overview: Quinta do Vale is an 18-hole parkland course in the eastern Algarve, set beside the Guadiana River close to the Spanish border at Castro Marim. Severiano Ballesteros designed the layout around broad fairways, doglegs, water hazards and the rolling ground of the river valley. The course has a deliberately balanced scorecard with six par 3s, six par 4s and six par 5s, but the symmetry does not make the round predictable. The opening holes bring ponds and water decisions into play, while the higher ground later in the course provides views across the Guadiana valley and toward Spain. The wide fairways can encourage an aggressive line, yet the best score still depends on selecting the right angle for the next shot and avoiding the hazards that guard the greens.
History: Quinta do Vale opened in October 2008 as a Ballesteros signature course in the eastern Algarve. The official course information records 18 holes, par 72 and a length of about 6,216 metres, with the design using the natural valleys and hills around the Guadiana. Its location gives the course a clear cross-border identity: the river is the principal landscape reference, while the bridge and Spanish side of the valley appear from higher parts of the routing. Ballesteros's approach combines generous corridors with strategic doglegs and water, creating a course that remains playable for a wide range of golfers without losing its tactical demands.
Did You Know? Quinta do Vale's six-three-six scorecard is unusual in a full-length 18-hole course: six par 3s, six par 4s and six par 5s. The pattern keeps the round varied and gives the course a distinctive rhythm, with short-hole precision, positional par 4s and longer holes all carrying equal weight in the final score.
