Overview: Queenwood is a private heathland-style course at Ottershaw in Surrey. David McLay Kidd's 18-hole layout opened in 2001 and measures about 6,830 yards at par 72. The course uses tumbling parkland ground, extensive heather and fescue-edged bunkers to echo the established heathland courses of the Surrey sandbelt without copying their older routings.
History: Queenwood was developed at the turn of the century as a new private golf club, with McLay Kidd responsible for the course design. The project deliberately looked toward the traditions of nearby Sunningdale, Walton Heath and Woking while using a contemporary routing on its Ottershaw site. The course has remained a private club rather than a public resort course.
Did You Know? McLay Kidd designed Queenwood as a deliberate return to heathland traditions, using heather and sandy-looking bunker edges as design materials. The contrast between the modern opening date and the older visual language is central to the course's identity.
