Overview: Quail Hollow Golf Course is an 18-hole public layout in the Boise Foothills, with a listed par of 70 and a compact 6,308-yard back-tee distance. Bruce Devlin and Robert von Hagge designed a course that gets much of its character from elevation changes, sloped greens and views across the Treasure Valley. It is a course of positioning rather than brute force, with hazards and changing ground encouraging players to think about where the next shot should begin.
History: The course first opened in 1982 under the name Shamana. Since then, the facility has changed names and is now operated by the City of Boise as Quail Hollow Golf Course. The underlying design remains associated with Devlin and von Hagge, and the course has developed into one of the city's recognizable foothills layouts. Its history is therefore as much about municipal stewardship and changing identity as it is about the original architectural team.
Did You Know? The course's own description lists deer, rabbits, bobcats, foxes and a variety of birds among the wildlife seen around the property. That list fits the setting: Quail Hollow sits in the foothills rather than on a fully built-out urban parcel, so the round combines open Treasure Valley views with pockets of habitat. The wildlife is an occasional bonus, while the main test remains the elevation and the sloping putting surfaces.
