Overview: Pyle and Kenfig is an 18-hole links on the South Wales coast, set among the dunes and open ground of Kenfig. The course is best understood as two connected landscapes: the earlier Colt side has a more settled rhythm, while the later holes climb into larger dunes and expose the player to a broader range of lies and wind angles. The contrast gives the round its distinctive sense of progression.
History: The original nine-hole course opened in 1922 and was associated with Harry Colt. During the Second World War the Army requisitioned part of the course, reducing play to nine holes. After the war, new linksland was used to restore an 18-hole course, with Mackenzie Ross designing the replacement nine through the dunes. The present course therefore preserves two different stages of its development.
Did You Know? The front and back nines are not simply different in appearance. The documented post-war rebuilding means that a round at Pyle and Kenfig moves from the earlier Colt work into the later Mackenzie Ross land and routing, making the course's history visible in its architecture.
