Overview: Pwllheli Golf Club combines links and parkland golf on the south-facing coast of Cardigan Bay. The route moves from tree-lined and cultivated ground towards more open coastal terrain, with wind and changing lies adding to the strategy. Its position on the Llŷn Peninsula gives the course a broad outlook across the bay, while the mixed landscape keeps the round varied from the opening holes to the final approach.
History: The club was formed in 1900, when Old Tom Morris laid out the original nine holes. James Braid extended the course to 18 holes in 1909, and David Lloyd George officially opened the extended layout on 1 June that year. Major changes followed between 1972 and 1975, when new holes were created and the modern routing took shape.
Did You Know? On the Old Course routing, the opening ten holes are followed by eight holes on The Point, a narrow peninsula with secluded coves and sandy beaches alongside the fairways. The switch from inland ground to the peninsula is what gives Pwllheli its unusual two-part character.
