Overview: Witch Hollow at Pumpkin Ridge is a Bob Cupp design in the wooded hills of North Plains, northwest of Portland. The course blends tree-lined corridors, natural ground and views toward the Cascade Mountains with a strategic layout that asks for accurate positioning and confident approaches. Cupp’s work gives the holes a strong individual identity, while the surrounding woodland keeps the round visually enclosed and atmospheric. At 7,017 yards and par 72, Witch Hollow has the length for elite competition, yet the course’s interest comes from its variety of lines, green shapes and changing relationship with the native landscape.
History: Pumpkin Ridge opened in 1992, with Witch Hollow and the companion Ghost Creek course establishing the club as an important new destination near Portland. Golf Digest immediately recognised Witch Hollow as the No. 2 Best New Private Course in the United States. The course then moved quickly into championship history: the USGA selected Witch Hollow for the 1997 U.S. Women’s Open and returned in 2003. Those events brought the course’s imaginative Cupp design to a national audience and helped define Pumpkin Ridge as one of Oregon’s most significant modern golf properties.
Did You Know? Witch Hollow hosted the U.S. Women’s Open in both 1997 and 2003. It is one of the few Oregon courses to have welcomed the championship twice, with the two editions separated by only six years.
