Overview: The Dye Canyon Course at Promontory Club is a private Pete Dye design in Park City, Utah, built into the rugged hills and canyon country of the Wasatch Range. The course uses dramatic elevation changes, exposed rock and natural folds in the land to create a sequence that is more varied than its mountain setting might suggest. Broad views open across the high country, while the closer playing questions are about angles, landing zones and how much of the canyon terrain to challenge. The directory lists the 18-hole layout at approximately 7,700 yards and par 72, with multiple tee positions helping the course serve a wide range of club players.
History: The Dye Canyon Course was Promontory’s first 18-hole golf course and opened for club play in 2002. It established the golf identity of the developing Park City community before the Nicklaus Painted Valley Course joined it in 2007. Pete Dye’s design was built around the existing hillside and canyon terrain, so the course’s character comes from natural grade changes and sightlines rather than a flat, manufactured plan. The club continues to describe the course as a signature Dye layout, with the surrounding community and mountain recreation forming its wider setting.
Did You Know? Promontory’s official course description says the Dye Canyon Course has six sets of tees. That range matters on a layout with substantial elevation and canyon exposure: changing the starting point can alter the preferred line, the landing area and the amount of risk a player sees on the same hole.
