Overview: The Preserve at Grand View Lodge is a public resort course in Pequot Lakes where forest, wetlands and rolling northwoods terrain define the experience. Dan Helbling and Mike Morley arranged the 18-hole layout around scenic elevation changes, elevated tee shots and green complexes that reward a clear read of the ground. The course is separated from housing and framed by natural landscape, giving the round a secluded quality even within the larger Grand View golf destination. Its character comes from movement and setting rather than artificial spectacle.
History: The Preserve was developed in the mid-1990s and opened in 1996 as an 18-hole course designed by Dan Helbling and Mike Morley. Grand View Lodge later incorporated the course into its broader Brainerd Lakes golf operation. A major reconstruction and clubhouse project was completed in the early 2010s, followed by a significant renovation in 2015 that refined tees, greens and playing corridors. The present course therefore combines a 1990s resort design with later work intended to improve strategy and playability while protecting its forest-and-wetland setting.
Did You Know? The Preserve is known for eleven elevated tees, a number that explains much of the course's visual rhythm. The tee shots repeatedly reveal the land before the player reaches the next fairway, making elevation part of the course's identity from the opening holes onward.
