Overview: Prairie Green Golf Course is a public Dick Nugent design in southern Sioux Falls, operated as one of the city's municipal golf facilities. The 18-hole prairie-links layout reaches 7,179 yards at par 72 and uses generous fairways, wetlands, tall native grass and broad Great Plains skies to shape the round. The course is open enough for wind to influence club selection, yet its well-bunkered greens and water features provide clear strategic targets. Two distinct nine-hole circuits give the course variety, with the back nine circling around housing and the front nine grouped more closely around the clubhouse.
History: Prairie Green opened in 1995 as Sioux Falls' newest municipal golf facility. Dick Nugent designed the course to provide a modern public layout on the city's southern edge, and the city worked with Landscapes Unlimited during construction. The course quickly gained recognition, appearing on Golf Digest's 1996 list of best new affordable courses. It remains part of a three-course municipal system alongside Elmwood and Kuehn Park, giving Sioux Falls a broad public golf network rather than a single signature facility.
Did You Know? The 15th is a 566-yard par five that bends toward a peninsula green beside a small lake. Bunkers narrow the landing area and water presses on the approach, making it one of the clearest examples of how Prairie Green combines open prairie scale with a precise finishing target.
