Overview: Porto Carras Golf Club offers 18 holes with a par of 72 at Porto Carras Grand Resort on the Sithonia peninsula of Halkidiki. Geoffrey S. Cornish and William G. Robinson designed the layout between the Aegean Sea and Mount Itamos, where fairways pass through olive groves, vineyards and open Mediterranean ground. The directory lists approximately 6,625 yards, while the resort describes the course as the largest 18-hole golf venue in Northern Greece. Water hazards and bunkers give the broad landscape a strategic edge, and views can reach from the mountains across the estate toward Neos Marmaras and the sea.
History: The golf course was established in 1974 as part of Giannis Carras's ambitious new resort, which transformed a remote stretch of Halkidiki into a self-contained destination with hotels, a marina, vineyards and sport facilities. The layout was later renovated and redesigned in 2003, updating the playing surfaces and infrastructure while retaining the Olive Grove identity. That layered history explains why Porto Carras combines an early modern resort plan with a course that still feels closely tied to the estate's mature olive trees and long-established vineyard landscape.
Did You Know? More than 45,000 olive trees were planted across the wider Porto Carras estate as the resort was created. The golf course is therefore part of a much larger agricultural landscape rather than a development placed on empty ground. During a round, the olive groves and vineyards are not background decoration: they define the visual corridors, frame the mountain views and give the course its distinctive northern Greek character.
