Overview: Port Fairy Golf Links follows the natural sand dunes near the Southern Ocean, producing an 18-hole links whose character comes from wind, firm ground and changing coastal lies. The course is not built around a single dramatic feature. Instead, its charm accumulates through low dunes, open fairways, native vegetation and the way the land gives different answers to a shot depending on the weather.
History: Port Fairy's first nine holes were established in 1963 after a design effort led by club members. The course grew in stages, and the full 18-hole layout was officially opened in 1985. Kevin Hartley later extended and refined the course, while Mike Clayton contributed major design work in the 2000s and remains part of its modern architectural story. The present course therefore combines local authorship with professional refinement.
Did You Know? The final hole is a long par five that measures 484 metres from the men's tee and returns toward the clubhouse. Its length is only part of the challenge. The approach is shaped by the open coastal air and the position of the landing shot, giving the round a fittingly exposed finish after the quieter dune corridors earlier on.
