Overview: Port Elizabeth Golf Club is a mature parkland course in Gqeberha, close enough to the city centre to be part of a normal travel itinerary rather than a remote resort detour. The Gary Player championship layout measures about 6,028 metres from the men’s tees and plays to par 72. Tree-lined fairways, subtle elevation changes and the Old Woman’s River give the course a distinctly Eastern Cape character.
History: The club traces its foundation to 1890, making it one of the oldest golf institutions in the region. The present championship identity is associated with Gary Player’s design, while the club has continued to serve as a central home for golf in Port Elizabeth and the wider Nelson Mandela Bay area. The long club history and modern course design therefore belong to different chapters of the same site.
Did You Know? The Old Woman’s River is part of the course’s visual and strategic identity. It is a reminder that this is not simply an inland city park: the routing sits within the coastal watershed, with water, wind and open Eastern Cape light affecting how holes are read.
