Overview: Poplar Grove gives Virginia golfers 18 holes at par 72 among the Blue Ridge Mountains. Sam Snead and Ed Carton shaped the parkland course with bentgrass tees, fairways, and greens.
History: The course opened in 2004 and is described by the club as Sam Snead’s final golf-course vision. Carton collaborated on the design, helping turn Snead’s concept into a complete eighteen-hole course with mountain views and rolling terrain.
Did You Know? Poplar Grove is promoted as the only course designed by Sam Snead. That makes the Amherst layout a direct part of the Hall of Famer’s design legacy as well as a Virginia golf destination.
