Overview: At Ponderosa Golf and Country Club, the full 18-hole routing plays to par 72 in Taman Ponderosa, Johor Bahru. The club's current course page gives 6,467 metres from the black tees, approximately 7,072 yards, and describes a layout where natural undulations are combined with sand and water hazards. Mature trees, rolling fairways and city views form the background, while the course's position inside a residential township makes it unusually accessible for golfers staying in Johor Bahru or crossing from Singapore. It is a strategic parkland course built around selecting the right line and club.
History: Ponderosa's official anniversary material traces the club to a modest beginning in 1992 as a private and exclusive golf club serving the Johor Bahru community. The current club records identify Max Wexler as the original designer and Ronald Fream as the later remodeler. That distinction matters because the present course is the result of an established routing being refined over time, not a new course replacing the original. The club has since broadened into a lifestyle and family facility while retaining golf as its central activity.
Did You Know? The seventh is a 168-metre par three played over a large pond, with mature khaya trees on the left and bunkers flanking the elevated green. The ninth is a 543-metre dogleg par five whose creek, high-lipped bunkers and narrow approach make it a demanding end to the opening nine. On the back nine, the sixteenth turns around a large pond and waterfall, with the Tebrau River beside the green. These three holes show how Ponderosa uses water differently across the round.
