Overview: Springs’ Pollak Park Golf Course offers an 18-hole parkland layout in Springs, on the East Rand. Bluegum trees line much of the course, giving the property a classic inland character, while the club describes a mix of shorter risk-and-reward holes and demanding par fours. The course is open to visitors and remains a practical golf destination for the wider Johannesburg region, with a clubhouse, practice facilities, carts and a strong local competition programme.
History: The club began in 1921 as Springs Mines and West Springs Golf Club with nine holes. It was extended to 18 playable holes in 1930 and later renamed Pollak Park in honour of Major Pollak of Anglo American. Members took ownership from Anglo American in 1975, and a 2005 bunkering programme based on a Mark Muller design report helped modernise the course without erasing its older parkland identity.
Did You Know? The large bluegum tree near the 18th tee commemorates the club’s first captain, GH Moll. Pollak Park also runs caddy, junior and development initiatives, so the course’s history is visible not only in its trees and old name but also in the way the club continues to build local participation.
