Overview: Plettenberg Bay Country Club is a visitor-friendly Garden Route course set in the Piesang Valley, surrounded by fynbos and framed by the Outeniqua Mountains. The yellow tees measure about 6,067 metres at par 72. The lagoon appears from parts of the back nine, while the open vegetation and birdlife make the course feel more like a nature reserve than a conventional town park.
History: The club has developed as the local sporting centre for Plettenberg Bay, alongside the town’s rise as a major South African coastal destination. Rob O’Friell has been involved in upgrading the greens and surrounds, helping the course keep its playing surfaces aligned with modern visitor expectations while preserving the valley setting.
Did You Know? The course is home to the Knysna turaco, a colourful forest bird closely associated with the Garden Route. On the back nine, the lagoon and mountain views become part of the round, so the wildlife and scenery are not separate attractions but part of the playing landscape.
