Overview: Piqua Country Club is an 18-hole private course in Piqua, Ohio, with a design record that combines Donald Ross heritage and later work credited to Jack Kidwell. Tree-lined bentgrass fairways, small undulating greens, mature oaks and elevated tees give the layout a classic Miami Valley character. At par 71 and about 6,785 yards, it is long enough to demand sound positioning while leaving room for the natural contours and green complexes to shape the round. The course's identity is layered: the original golf ground is much older than the completed 18-hole routing now represented in the directory.
History: The club traces its origins to the late nineteenth century, when its first golf ground was established. Donald Ross redesigned the original six holes and added three more in 1920, creating the first nine of the historic layout. Later land acquisition and planning allowed a second nine to be developed; Miami Valley Golf's historical account dates the opening of that second nine to 1975 and credits the Kidwell/Hurdzan architecture firm. The current profile uses 1975 for the completed 18-hole routing while preserving the earlier club and Ross milestones as essential parts of the site's history.
Did You Know? Piqua is documented as the oldest course in the Dayton area and the second oldest in Ohio. Its distinctive chocolate-drop mounding is associated with Donald Ross's work, giving the modern course a visible architectural detail that predates the later second nine.
