Overview: Pinnacle Point Golf Club is an 18-hole coastal course on the clifftops above Mossel Bay, where fynbos, rocky ground and the Indian Ocean shape the routing. Peter Matkovich and Darren Clarke fitted the holes to the existing contours rather than forcing the property into a flat platform. Seven holes run along the ocean cliffs and four are played over ocean and cliff. A South African course record lists the black tees at 6,460 metres, approximately 7,068 yards, which is the yardage used here. The main strategic questions come from wind, lies and the relationship between fairway and cliff edge.
History: Pinnacle Point opened in November 2006 as a collaboration between Matkovich and Clarke. The official estate history describes all 18 holes as being designed to fit the land, while later estate material records the course's continued development as a clifftop fynbos layout. The opening date matters because the course was built as a complete modern routing, not as an older inland course later given a coastal extension. Its identity remains closely tied to Mossel Bay and the Garden Route.
Did You Know? The official course description counts seven holes along the Indian Ocean rock cliffs, with four of those played over ocean and cliff. That proportion gives the course a distinctive sequence: the coastal drama is not confined to one showcase hole, but is distributed through the routing. The fynbos landscape also means that the native vegetation is part of the course's architectural setting rather than a decorative border.
