Overview: Situated in Southern Pines, Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club is a resort course designed by Donald Ross. Winding through rolling hills and mature pine forests, the parkland layout features natural sandy waste areas and Ross's signature undulating green complexes. The course provides a strategic test of golf that requires careful club selection and precise approach positioning.
History: Opened in 1927, Pine Needles was built during the Golden Age of golf design. The course was purchased in 1953 by Warren and Peggy Kirk Bell, who turned it into a premier destination for golf instruction. The layout underwent a meticulous restoration by Kyle Franz in 2017, which restored the natural sandy wiregrass areas and original Ross bunker designs.
Did You Know? The club has hosted multiple U.S. Women's Open Championships, establishing a legacy of promoting women's professional tournament play.
